Android Pay, Google Wallet, Google Pay – What’s the difference?

The company’s first mobile payment system was Google wallet, it was developed for android devices like tablets, phones or watches. It was only available for contactless payments on Android devices. It was later renamed Android Pay in 2015.

On January 8, 2018, Google announced that Google wallet would be joined into Android Pay, with the services working jointly it was renamed as Google Pay.

Who developed Google Pay?

It was developed by Google for in-app and tap-to-pay purchases on mobile devices. It was developed for Android devices tablets and watches in September 2011. It had more than 541 million transactions and 75 million transacting customers in May.

It’s got all the highest security. All the customer payment data is end-to-end encrypted from Google’s servers to your payment processor. When someone sends you money, you’ll get an email or text. Transactions made using Google Pay are very safe as Google preserves all payment information on protected servers. One of the main reasons that the preponderance use bank cards instead of wallets are because they do not trust them.

Have you lost your credit or debit card? Then there’s no need to panic and wait for a replacement mail. When you apply for a new card from your bank, it’ll automatically update with Google Pay. When you have a card that’s about to expire the same thing happens. It automatically updates itself.

Cons

  • You can’t say that it’s fully secure

Even though it has a huge amount of security features, it’s still not fully invincible. You can’t say that you’re 100% safe and secure from any privacy concerns.

  • Its supported only on certain phones

This wallet can be used on all modern Android phones . However, the android phone must support Host Card Emulation.

  • Limited only to NFC technology

One of the major problem is that it only works with Near-Field Communication. It does not work on Magnetic secure transmission terminals. This means that you can only use this service at stores that have NFC POS terminals.

  • Dependent on mobile devices

As your transaction is fully dependent on your phone, you’ll be at a risk if your app is accidentally deleted ,if you have lost it or if your battery runs out.
