What is Amazon Pay

Amazon pay is a subsidiary of Amazon Inc. launched in 2007. The headquarters of Amazon Pay is located in Seattle, Washington, United States. Amazon Pay is used by both customers and merchants. Amazon Pay gives its customers an option to pay with it whilst using Amazon. It’s registration charge is free.

The service is available in Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Republic of Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States (as of 2019).

In 2019, Amazon Pay announced a partnership with WorldPay. This allowed WorldPay to enable Amazon Pay to its merchants. Worldpay became the first acquirer to enable Amazon Pay.

How to sign up

There is no separate registration process for Amazon Pay. All you have to do if you have an Amazon account is to go to Amazon and accept the Customer Agreement . If you don’t have an account in Amazon, you have to create an account. Then agree to the customer agreement.

It is recommended to use two-step verification also known as multi-factor authentication. This feature sends a security code to the phone number you have registered with. So, every time you log in, you have to enter that security pin. This heightens the security of your account.

Amazon allows you to use automatic payments. Say you have to pay a recurring payment on a subscription. Then the merchant can automatically charge you the cost in a given duration of time.

A recurring payment is a payment that repeats in a given duration of time.

You can also use this feature for future payments. For example if you’re planning on buying a game. You can still cancel the payments later on. You will receive a notice when your chosen payment method is charged.

Inline checkout

Amazon Pay provides an option called inline checkout. This feature, instead of redirecting you to a third party website, preserves the integrity of the brand by maintaining the color scheme and logo. It acts like an iFrame.

“Alexa, did I pay my electricity bill?”
“Alexa, pay my electricity bill.”

Enable a voiceless experience with Alexa and never be late to pay a bill. Just click on the microphone icon in the Amazon app and ask Alexa anything. For example, if you ask “Alexa, when is my gas bill due,” she will respond and navigate you to the app. Add money easily to your Amazon pay balance – “Alexa, add  $50 to my Amazon Pay balance.” Life made simple.
